Winona, how could you?!

Everyone was worried how they would pull it off, until details were released that it would take place in Star Fleet Academy. Still, who could they get to play the parts that even resembled the original cast?
Here’s my take on the Star Trek Newbies:
Chris Pine – Kirk
I actually don’t think I’ve seen a single thing he has done. He looks cute, and could possibly play the part physically, but I don’t know enough about it him to decided definitively about his acting possibilities.
Zachary Qunito – Spock
I am extremely excited to see this choice. I think it was one of the best decisions they could have made. For those of you who don’t know, Zachary plays Sylar on the hit TV series “Heroes”. I think he’s perfect for the look of Spock (just add some pointy ears) and his acting ability is amazing and quite ranged. Though, it will be quite a task to see him go from the ranging emotions of Sylar to the emotionless Spock, I still believe he is quite capable of the task.
Simon Pegg – Scotty
I’m also quite pleased for this choice. Simon Pegg is a very hilarious comedian and actually very adaptable on acting. We’ve seen him go from Comic Book collection nerd to Zombie Bashing, Non-Commitment “Shaun” and even does a skit in Grindhouse. I think he will bring the perfect amount of comedy and drama to the screen.
Zoe Saldana – Uhura
Another actress I haven’t seen actually act, but her look was definitely chosen for the correct part. I think she has quite a likeness for Uhura, and if done well, I could see being Uhura.
Karl Urban – Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy
This young man is a fantastic actor. I’ve seen quite a few of his movies, but unfortunately, all the parts I’ve seen him in were Action Films. I’m not sure how well he will be able to translate this experience into playing Bones, but hopefully he can do it. Otherwise, this one choice by the casting director, could completely ruin the movie.
John Cho – Sulu
I love John. He’s had a variable range as far as acting parts, which goes to show he has excellent range. He excels in comedy and as shown in the Harold and Kumar series and American Dreamz, he’s quite capable of doing both in your face hilarity, and subtle, giggle to yourself comedy.
Eric Bana – Nero
Eric Bana is fantastic. He’s a great actor, and I believe, a perfect choice for the villain of this movie. He’s really good at going from protagonist to antagonist in 60 seconds
and then we come to this:
WINONA FUCKING RYDER – Amanda Grayson (Spocks Human Mother)
Did they look at the cast and say to each other “Wow, this movie is going to be awesome. We gotta suck it up a bit. Let’s call Winona Ryder”…. It’s gotta be, because there is absolutely no excuse for her being in the movie. I don’t care how many people she had to suck off to get this part, it’s uncalled for! There are certain parts that Winona does well, such as Lydia in Beatlejuice, and Heather in Heathers… But SPOCK’S MOTHER? Are you fucking serious? Not only do I think she will butcher the part, much like what she did in Alien:Resurrection, the Crucible and Dracula, but I think she might single-handedly cause this movie to be the biggest flop of the Star Trek series. Think INSURRECTION, but worse!
This is just a dissection on the cast, I won’t even BEGIN to go into the problems with the storyline. My one major question: Why did they decide to go with a “new” Original Series instead of just a NEW fucking story-arch?! Other than the obvious “riding on the coattails of established characters”, is there any real reason? Stupid money grubbing bastards.
What I expect is they will just make Chekhov run around with a handy-cam and not show you the main bad guy until the end of the movie. And then we are all disappointed because it’s just a Romulan.
